Our History

Welcome to Wilfreda Beehive, where we’ve been setting the standard for luxury passenger transport services since 1949. Our story began, when our founder, William (Bill) Scholey, purchased a single coach from a local taxi operator, Wilfred Graham. Inspired by its unique name, Wilfreda, after the operator’s daughter, Bill decided to carry the name forward, marking the inception of Wilfreda Luxury Coaches Limited.

In the 1950s, as the world recovered from war years and personal cars were not as common, Wilfreda Beehive grew rapidly. Our services catered to the newfound desire for travel, offering cherished day trips to seaside resorts. Despite juggling operations with Rotherham Sand and Gravel Ltd., Bill’s other company, our commitment to providing exceptional travel experiences remained unwavering.

However, as the car became a household necessity in the late ’60s and early ‘70s, and with the surge of the housing boom demanding Rotherham Sand and Gravel’s attention, our coach business faced a slow period. It was in 1976 that Sue Scholey, Bill’s daughter-in-law, stepped in, turning the business profitable again, and took the reins of the company following the passing of Bill and his wife, Marie.

The 1980s saw a resurgence and expansion under Tony and Sue Scholey. Moving to Bawtry in 1981, they introduced holiday tours and started working with entities like the National Coal Board and Nottinghamshire County Council. Our footprint in stage carriage work began with our partnership with Central Electricity. The decade also witnessed our first merger when we acquired E.A. Hart Ltd., trading as Beehive Services, in 1987, further strengthening our presence in Doncaster.

Continuing our growth, we acquired Roeville Tours Ltd. in 1993, enhancing our offerings with a new range of tours, and later Eagre Coaches in 2006, which allowed us to establish a broader base of pick-up points in Lincolnshire.

Today, Wilfreda Beehive represents a legacy that spans over seven decades. Our journey from a single coach to a premier transport service has been driven by our unwavering commitment to luxury, reliability, and exceptional customer service.
